A key resolution opposing FDI in retail was adopted on the inaugural day of the 8th National Conference of the CITU affiliated Steel Workers'Federation of India.

The speakers at the 3 day conference flayed the economic policies of the Congress led UPA Government,including liberalization,globalization and disinvestment in profit making PSUs.Their demands include immediate finalization of the wage agreement for permanent steel workers to ensure pay on par with executives and inclusion of contractual workers engaged in plants and mines of SAIL and RINL into the National Joint Committee on Steel agreement.

CITU's Odisha unit general secretary and reception committee chairman Mr Bishnu Mohanty said that a resolution had been passed to continue protest against FDI.The house also mourned the death of former CITU president Mr MK Pandhe and other CITU leaders.

Mr Jiban Roy former MP and CITU national secretary inaugurated the conference in the presence of SWFI national general secretary and working president Mr PK Das and Mr Ajit Mukherjee respectively.

Mr Mohanty said that Mr Lambodar Nayak Odisha unit CITU president was present.The reception committee also pressed for raising the capacity of Rourkela Steel Plant from the present 4.5 million tonne to 10 million tonne.
